Ayurveda :: Lifestyle Medicine
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a holistic system of healing and preventative wellness, rooted in lifestyle, diet, relationships, and environments.
Ayurveda is the oldest recorded form of medicine. It is the original “lifestyle medicine,” created by the ancients, but relevant across the times.
How is Ayurveda Different from Western Medicine?
Ayurveda focuses on a preventative lifestyle practices and looks at root causes of disease, rather than just treating symptoms.
In Ayurveda, both physical and mental well-being are considered indicators of a person’s overall health.
Ayurveda emphasizes personalized care plans based on an individual’s unique dosha constitution. It is the opposite of a “one size fits all” wellness model.
What are the doshas?
The three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—are the energies in Ayurveda, considered to govern all physical and mental processes. Everyone has a unique combination of all three.
As distinct energies, they represent —
Vata :: creation & movement
Pitta :: digestion & transformation
Kapha :: growth & sustainability
